Remediation of Contaminated Areas

The ‘Remediation’ phase commenced in March 2023 following the granting and receipt of an Industrial Emissions (IE) Licence from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The remediation of three areas of environmental concern on-site (described throughout this website as AECs) is the final, and most complex, of the three phases in the overall decommissioning of the site.

A large multidisciplinary team from Roche, and the main contractor, Indaver, has meticulously planned the design of this phase, in what is the largest remediation project of this nature ever undertaken in Ireland.

All aspects of this phase will conform to the highest environmental and safety standards in line with the Industrial Emissions (IE) Licence.

Traffic movements to and from the site, through Clarecastle, and onwards to Shannon Foynes Port, will increase significantly during this phase. This will be managed by an on-site Traffic Management team.

Full details on all aspects of this phase are provided in the links below.
